Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

This week two of our students share their artworks and reflections from the Christmas Story Art Exhibition and Competition.

ANGEL'S JOURNEY

Kiara Morgan

Year Five

My artwork was inspired by the Annunciation and the angel’s journey from God to Mary. The angel in my artwork was sent to give Mary the special news that she is going to have a baby named Jesus. Mary is crying tears of shock and despair as she doesn’t understand what is going on but knows she will do whatever God asks of her. The angel is important and is carrying a staff showing that she is a special messenger with important news.

I chose to use dark blacks and bright whites in a tonal drawing in soft pastels to show that Mary was deep in thought, and I blended the pastels to show the changing emotions. I wanted to make the viewer feel the importance of this message and the emotions of confusion but leading to a feeling of peace. I chose to call my artwork ‘Angels Journey’ because of how central her message was in the Christmas Story. It makes me think of long journeys that I have had to take where I have known God was traveling with me keeping me safe.

TRUE COLOURS

Ella Villiami

Year 6

I was inspired by Matthew 1-18:25. My artwork represents an almost married couple that have their different views and opinions in life. Mary is the happiness and Joseph’s decision to divorce is the sadness about to wash away her joy. Mary has been coloured with orange, yellow and pink to symbolize the Holy Spirit and trust Mary used as God guided her and Joseph to show them the right pathway in life. Joseph is coloured with blue, green and brown, the blue spiritually signifies the healing power of God. In the background I have used a circular brush in a vector type of way to show this image is in Joseph's dream. The dabbing of the brush when the colours meet in the middle is the Lord interrupting Joseph's dream and explaining to Joseph that he shouldn’t be afraid to marry Mary. I connect with my artwork because I know that when I have a hard decision to face, it can even bring out the worst in me. My art can relate to real life behavior, faith in God is what you need in order to face the difficult decisions and let your true colours shine.

For all things at St Joseph’s, give thanks!
