Principal's Post

From Mr Phillips

How quickly is term 1 moving along. We have less than 4 weeks remaining but I have been really impressed with the overall work ethic of our students and their involvement in so many different aspects of school life. Students are becoming increasingly clearer about what they are expected to know and understand in each of their lessons and our focus on increasing student learning growth will continue its momentum throughout 2018.

What an exciting time for the cast of this year’s musical, the Addams Family, that was announced earlier this week. You might like to check out the details at www.rscproduction.com.au and the Vimeo clip announcing the team, also in this newsletter. It is very clever.

By the time you read this article your child should have delivered home a pack of election materials for the Parent category of school council. There are 7 nominees for the three vacancies and the ballot closes at 4pm on Tuesday March 13. If you have not received a ballot paper they are available from the College Office each weekday between 830am and 430pm. We are fortunate to have so many parents interested in contributing to our College and council is one important way that you can be involved.

Tomorrow evening, I look forward to joining with many of our Year 11 students and families as we celebrate another Presentation Ball at the Grand in Wantirna. The participants have given up many evening hours to rehearse and learn their dance routines.

Term 1 is a timely reminder about Private Property being brought to School. The Department does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs.

As part of RSCs fee package, student accident insurance/ambulance cover is available and can be arranged by parents/guardians for individual students.

Please note that private property brought to school by students, staff or visitors is not insured and the Department does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage.

My final comments in this Principal post, is to our Year 12 students and families. Year 12 is considered by some to be the most important year of schooling. There is can sometimes be enormous amounts of pressure on Year 12 students and this may come from a variety of sources including parents, teachers, and the students themselves. There are a number of ways parents can support their children as they work through their final year of schooling. BeyondBlue have produced some terrific fact sheets which are a great resource to all Year 12 students and their parents:
