HARVEY’S HIGHLIGHTS! WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING AT SPS?

READING NIGHTS

Don’t forget to come and show Mrs Harvey when you have read for 25 nights to get yourself up on our reading wall of fame and get a sticker! When you have read for 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 nights you will get a photo taken with our giant balloons.

So far this term we have had 68 possible nights for reading.

Remember for those of you who read and record 200 nights of reading this year you will receive a Somerville PS Golden Ticket. This ticket will give you access to a special ‘pizza party’ lunch in term 4. So don’t forget to keep up that reading and annoy your parents and carers so they sign your books to say you have read! We have a reading hall of fame in the foyer. How far can you climb on our wall?

To get to 200 you have to read for 50 nights each term. This includes any reading you do or being read to by your parents or you can even read to your teddies – JUST READ! It all counts so start recording your nights so you can come to our party.

S.E.E.C. TEAM

Congratulations to our S.E.E.C. representatives that were presented with their badges at assembly last Friday. S.E.E.C stands for Somerville Education Environment Crew and I look forward to seeing the wonderful things they achieve this year under the guidance of our Environmental Science teacher, Miss Dunstan.

SRC TEAM

Congratulations to our SRC representatives that were presented with their badges at assembly last Friday. SRC stands for Student Representative Council and I look forward to watching what they achieve on behalf our the students in 2022.

RUBBISH REBELS

Congratulations to our families for trying so hard to be rubbish free every day. We know this is a big change and can be challenging at times but I really want to say thank you for the wonderful efforts I can see around the school to reduce our rubbish. As a busy mum myself I know how hectic it can be to get lunches ready in the morning but every little bit helps so THANK YOU! We are encouraging zero waste lunch boxes every day however if your child brings waste in their lunchbox they take it home. I have been discussing with some classes that even taking rubbish home is helping the school as we have to pay to get our rubbish picked up every week so the less landfill we are putting into our bins the more this money can be put back into other wonderful things around the school.

SOMERVILLE STAR AWARDS

Congratulations to our super awesome Somerville Star Recipients this week. Well done for working hard and demonstrating our school values at all times!

TUTU DAY

This was such a fun day and was so great to see the creativity of our family to join in with this event. We even made it into the local newspaper!!!!

SPS ON TOUR

This year we have two of our wonderful families, the Melfies and Hansens, along with Miss Gooding, travelling around Australia. How lucky are they and how jealous are we!!!!! The most awesome thing is that they have run into each other just before they started their trek across the Nullarbor. We hope they are having the best time and look forward to following their travels this year.

MONSTER MAYHEM COLOUR RUN Friday 11th March

Just a reminder that this Friday is our Colour Explosion School Fun Run from 2.00pm to 3.15pm. Make sure students wear a WHITE t-shirt on the day. They are allowed to wear free dress for the day so please make sure it is clothing they are able to get colour on. They will be covered in non-toxic, biodegradable colour powder from head to toe!

Every child will get an icypole at the end of the day so there will be no icypoles for sale at lunch time.

How awesome to be able to let you know that parents will be allowed onsite to come and watch the Colour Run. We look forward to seeing you there from 2.00pm if you can make it!!!

Also make sure the clothes they wear are SunSmart and students are safely covered from the sun so NO SINGLET TOPS!!
