From the Principal

David Tapp

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been a very exciting few weeks at Somerville, with our Leaders Badge assembly, Clean Up Australia Day and several incursions and excursions across the school. I’m disappointed that I missed it, unfortunately I have been at home isolating due to family members having COVID. It’s been excellent to be back! In line with DET advice, we are

looking forward to welcoming parent helpers back from the 16th of March, all parent helpers must be triple vaccinated, having a current working with children check and have been inducted into our school system. If you are interested in helping, please contact your child’s teacher. Parents will also be welcome at our outdoor assemblies, if we need to move into the hall due to weather, we will be limited to the number of parents that can come in due to space. We will be sending the next testing cycle of RATs home next week, thank you to all families for completing the testing, and keeping us informed of results; we appreciate it.

We have the colour run tomorrow, I know all our students are very excited, thank you to

FoSP for all of your hard work organising this amazing event. With the colour run, running in the afternoon, parents are welcome to come and observe from 2pm. Whilst it is fantastic to have parents on-site and participating in school events, unfortunately I need to remind families that aggression, verbal or physical towards staff is unacceptable. We have had a couple of instances recently whereby parents have sworn at staff or become aggressive. This will not be tolerated at any level.  As a school we are very proud of our school and connections with the community. Our staff always go above and beyond to support students and families. The Department of Education recently brought in Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy, please click here to access the policy.

Next Tuesday 15th March we have a Curriculum Day focused on Professional Learning Communities, we have a DET facilitator who is working with our school as we further develop our work on student data and planning for differentiation to challenge our students. Camp Australia are running on this day, please head to their website if you need to book.

Last year some of our 5-6 students worked with the local council to create and design a mural on a pipe at Barber Reserve. This year the mural has been finished and our student Leaders were invited to see the finished work. This piece of work will be used as part of a Mornington Peninsula Shire Mural/Art trail that is soon to be launched. Some of the photos of the mural are below.

I hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend and we will see everyone back at school on Wednesday 16th March.

Kind Regards,

David Tapp
