Principal's Update

School Assembly

Last Friday we had a mid-term outdoor assembly. It was the first opportunity for our new student leaders to take the reins. They all did a great job and it was a welcome feeling getting together as a whole school. There were a few key points that came out of this assembly:

Hands, feet and objects - As we start a new school year, I wanted to remind our community that we as an organisation have zero tolerance to violence. The students were reminded this at assembly. All students need to keep hands, feet and objects to themselves at all times.

Attendance - The students that have consistency with their attendance are more likely to succeed. Students need to be at school for teachers to do what they do best! Attendance is more important than ever considering the impacts of the previous few years. As a community we need to ensure we do everything we can to get students to school every day. If students do have a strong attendance rate, we’re giving them the best possible start in life. Remember to always communicate absences to the school if your child is away for any reason.

We read out our current EMMAC (Every Minute Matters at Cobram) competition results at the end of week 5. The winner of this term’s attendance will head to the Cobram cinemas as a reward. The results are as follows:

1st -  1/2S and 5/6P

2nd - 3/4E

3rd - 1/2B and 3/4M

4th - 1/2H

5th - 3/4R

6th - 5/6N

7th - Foundation G and 5/6G

8th - Foundation B

9th - 1/2A

Writing audience - At assembly, we spoke about the opportunity for students’ to display their writing in different shop fronts around the town. This will hopefully increase motivation to write and give them a purpose for writing and publishing their pieces. The following businesses have agreed to display these writing pieces for us:

Ambience                Hungie Fangs                Cobram Bakery           Shear Kaos

Amcal                        The Corner Shop          Pizza House                Noonan’s Jewellery

Mitre 10                    Cobram Library             Blush Beauty               Ray White Real Estate             BABCON                  Bourke Accountants

‘It takes a village to raise a child.’

We thank all these businesses for their support. It takes a whole community working together to get the best out of our kids. We hope that this will have a positive impact on student writing moving forward.

Remember my door is always open if you need anything, even if it’s just for a chat. Have a great week and enjoy the upcoming long weekend.

Thanks,
