Student Support Hub News

Students started our Aspire Program this week in their House groups. This stimulated much discussion, particularly amongst our Year 9 students. The Year 9 Aspire Program incorporates participation in The Duke of Edinburgh Awards. All students are supported to learn a skill, improve their physical well being, volunteer in their community and experience a team adventure in a new environment.

Through this challenging journey of self-discovery, participants:

  • Are equipped and empowered to achieve their personal best
  • Learn to take responsibility for their goals and choices
  • Become connected to and actively engage with their immediate community
  • Make a real difference to society through their positive contributions and involvement
  • Learn to persevere and overcome barriers to success
  • Learn important life skills
  • Increase their career opportunities.

Students can complete this part of the Aspire Program as a school based experience or sign up for the official Duke Of Edinburgh International Award Program.

There are many tangible benefits that come from students completing the official Duke of Edinburgh Award:

  • Achievement of NTCET - The Bronze Award contributes 10 credits to the total required for students to receive their NT Certificate of Education and Training at graduation.
  • Employability - The Award enables young people to develop practical skills, behaviours and attitudes that are valued by employers globally.
  • Tertiary Placements - The Award is being recognised by leading universities and institutions.

This year we have 35 students who have already signed up to be part of the official Bronze Duke of Edinburgh International Award.
