WILSONS PROM CAMP

YEAR 11 AND 12 OES CAMP

On March 8 Yr 11 and Yr12 OEs students headed to the Prom for a 4 day 3 night experience. With backpacks ready we headed off on a 3 day hike around the southern aspects of the prom. First on the list was South Point (most southern point of mainland Australia). We stayed overnight at Roaring Meg and the students cooked a delicious meal on their trangias. Day two saw us heading for the light house and then onto Little Waterloo Bay. The big hill was a real challenge in the humidity but the students smashed it and all were glad to make camp for a well earnt rest. Day three it was destination Telegraph Saddle, where we left the bus two days earlier. Again, another big hill was the challenge and the relief on the faces of all students at the end was priceless. With awesome weather and a strong sense of accomplishment we were able to reflect on our experience over lunch. Some 50kms of trails carrying all their own food and water, clothes and sleeping equipment.

Thanks to the Parks Victoria Ranger that provided useful insight into the origins of the Prom and to Offshore for the surf lesson at Sandy Point. Fun and education with a great bunch of students. Well done everyone!!
