Year 7 & 8 News

Halfway through Term 1 already!

From the AP

Time flies when you are having fun! Halfway through Term 1 and so much has been happening. Year 7 Camp, Matilda auditions, Athletics Carnival, Swimming Trials, Hands on Learning, Connect 4 Success, RATs, and Immunisations just to name a few. Not to mention, there is plenty more to come.

A massive congratulations to our Year 7 Leaders, teachers and students on an excellent camp and alternate school program. I was fortunate enough to experience elements of both, and it was nothing short of organised, chaotic fun! The opportunities for students to connect through the amazing range of activities, challenge themselves, and build rapport with staff will hold them in great stead as they continue their year and future at CESC.

Year 8 do not have long to wait for their camp, scheduled for Term 2 (11-13 May), Licola Wilderness Village awaits! Information and deposit forms have been sent home.

Building on connections from camp, Year 7 students will have an opportunity to introduce their parents/guardians to their teachers at our annual Meet and Greet BBQ. See a reminder of these details below.

Our focus for the Green Building will continue to be the development of relationships, routines, positive work habits, and high expectations. Research suggests that it takes as many as 8 weeks for an adolescent to develop a habit. Staff very much appreciate parent/guardian support in this, ensuring students are abiding by policies, procedures, and these high expectations for learning.

Displayed on TVs in the building are these reminders for students.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all students, families and staff for their ongoing support. Schools are busy places, made more complicated by the challenges we have faced over the last couple of years, and revised protocols as we return to a covid-safe school environment. The resilience, perseverance and hope from our community is amazing.

Looking forward to an incredible second-half of term 2. Take care.

Assistant Principal

Year 7 Camp

The year 7 camp was a blast!

There were many different activities to have fun such as the giant swing, leap of faith and orienteering. People had an amazing time but there was a few bad things on camp. Lots of people complaining about the water, people were saying it tasted like chlorine water and dirt. Other than that they year 7 camp was super! The food was amazing and everyone was so nice! Most of the staff greeted all of us when we arrived there. At first camp felt awkward because we didn't know anyone, but by the end of the three days we came back to school with many more friends.

Hands on Learning Program

The HoL Program in Year 8, aims to build wellbeing, engagement, and attendance by creating opportunities for students to discover their talents and experience success through significant and authentic hands-on projects. Students complete a full-day of HoL each Friday.

Students identified and shortlisted for this Program recently sat panel interviews with a combination of the Program Leaders, Year Level Leader and Assistant Principal. Staff were blown away by the preparedness of students and demonstration of their strengths, reasons for wanting to participate, and future aspirations.
