Principal's Report

Mrs Clare Healy

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week I am reflecting on my first term as part of the O’Connor Team. I am grateful for the warm welcome I have received from our community. This is a team made up of many parts - staff, students, parents, parish and wider community. I am excited by the prospect that together we can change lives and make a real difference in our world.

The rich history of O’Connor Catholic College is not just in the buildings but in the fond memories I am so blessed to hear from past students. I have enjoyed meeting our parents at the welcome evenings and hearing their experiences and vision for their children and the O’Connor community.

As a new member to this community I have had the opportunity to meet with our staff to ask two questions -

- How can we make O’Connor better?

- What is your vision for O’Connor?

In every conversation I am reminded that our dedicated staff are focused on helping our students to grow into the people they are meant to be. Together with our parents it means our students have a strong support network of skilled helpful adults.

Everyday I get to see our students creating a better future for our community. I see it in the students representing us in ADNSA 2022 Commemoration Day Service, Armidale Student Leaders Evening, Swimming Carnival, International Women's Day, Ash Wednesday at the Cathedral, Guyra, Amidale and Walch Shows, Lismore Flood Appeal, Chess Competition, Debating Competition, Diocese Sporting events, Lasallian Youth Leaders looking after Year 7 2022 and STEP day with our new Year 7 2023 students, cooking for the Tour de Rocks as well as one of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students being the Armidale Diocese representative for the NSW Catholic Schools Indigenous Student Voice panel. This is only a fraction of the events our students involve themselves in which are in addition to the learning they are engaged in everyday.

I am a firm believer that to grow and learn you need to be open to new experiences. Our community is dynamic and we have an opportunity to learn from each other and celebrate our successes. I look forward to creating a future where Together Everyone Achieves More!

Take care,

Clare Healy
