PARACHUTING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT

Learning and Support: Over the last two weeks I asked our teachers who work across the school in a learning and support role – Mr Kinniburgh, Mrs Callaway, Ms Batten, Mrs Tannous and Mrs Craig to report on what they have been up to. As you know their roles were slightly changed this term as we have had all our support teachers attached to a class. This has been very successful as two teachers have been able to focus on literacy and numeracy to ensure every child is back on track. The roles these teachers play is vitally important as there is a focus on the academic, social and emotional needs of the children at our school. Thank you to our support staff for the wonderful work you do for the children at Fairvale PS. Check out their reports in this edition of the newsletter.

SCHOOL REPORTS

Reports will be sent home on Thursday 2 July. As I reported to everyone earlier this term, a simplified version of the report will be issued. General Literacy and Numeracy comments and learning goals will be made, along with our FAIR expectations. Reports will conclude with a comment regarding the Learning at Home, Learning at School Phase and school attendance data. Please talk to your child about their report. Be proud of the achievement your child has made during these challenging times.

PARENT/ TEACHER INTERVIEWS

At this time I am unable to confirm any details regarding Parent/ Teacher Interviews. I am hoping to have more information regarding the plan before the holidays. It might be that interviews are online or by phone. I appreciate your cooperation at this time.

SEMESTER ONE CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY

Our End of Semester Celebration Assembly will look very different this semester. We felt it was important to celebrate so we have come up with a very different model. Next Tuesday, students who will be receiving an award will attend either the K-2 or 3-6 Assembly. No-one will be in attendance. During this time, each child will have their name called, come to the stage and receive their award. The assembly will be recorded and on Thursday 2 July all classes will be able to watch the recording. We will also have a link for parents and friends which will enable you to view the special assembly.

STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK

The most important advice I can give is that if you are sick, please stay home from school. This is the message that has been given to all staff members as well. All adults on site will be healthy and ready to work and we expect the same for our children and their families. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. Check out the link below.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

All students should be at school unless:

They have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition
They are currently unwell.

If a student is absent without medical reason for more than three days, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school. If you need any support to get your child back to school, please contact the school.

ROAD SAFETY AT FAIRVALE PS

Road Safety around our school is often not very good, particularly around 3pm. Unfortunately, I have recently been informed that parents/carers have been parking in front of driveways and even parking in this space to drop and pick up children. This is not only lazy and inconsiderate but also extremely dangerous. Every afternoon I speak to parents who continue to do the wrong thing; examples include:

Not crossing at the pedestrian crossing
Not waiting in line at the ‘drop and kiss’ zone
Parking in the middle of the road and calling children to the car
Parking in front of driveways or in no stopping zones
Having no patience at all and/or
Leaving their car unattended in the ‘drop and kiss’ zone.

These examples are all illegal and hefty fines will be applied if caught. On a more serious note, I do not want anyone getting injured due to a poor decision that is made by an adult – there are no excuses! I will be contacting police and be asking for the area to be patrolled. Be safe, Be kind, Be careful and most importantly model the correct behaviour in front of your children!
