Supporting SisterWorks

With a strong relationship already forming with the non-profit social enterprise, SisterWorks, two recent student fundraising events have helped to strengthen support for this organisation that has recently put roots down in Bendigo.

Money raised by the Girton Community Action Group at the Harmony Day BBQ have been donated to SisterWorks and today, Year 12 students enjoyed wearing their rugby tops to school for a pizza lunch and soccer match, with money raised also going to SisterWorks to support migrant and refugee women.

SisterWorks is dedicated to bringing women together and providing them with skills that they can use immediately to work and to support themselves financially. The group’s work is designed to improve the confidence, mental wellbeing and sense of belonging to the women who seek it.

The “Sisters” as they are known, are responsible for repurposing of second hand Girton Grammar school uniforms which were recently donated to an elementary school in the Philippines. The work was undertaken in Girton House in the Junior School on donated sewing machines and the Sisters will be returning to the Junior School to repurpose uniforms for donation to a Secondary School in the Philippines.
