Discovery Centre

Curriculum

The month of May has arrived and we are officially in Week 4! The past week showcased another positive week of Home Learning in the Discovery Centre. Many Foundation Students demonstrated their student voice through check-in responses as well as their strong love of learning through challenging themselves in activities. A huge 'Terima Kasih' (Thank you) to all of the hardworking parents, friends and siblings who are supporting the Foundation Students with their learning from home. We are so grateful for your partnership!

Foundation Students demonstrated their knowledge of their codes in their Weekend Recount Writing. We are so impressed at their perseverance in having a go at sounding out their sentences before asking for help. It was so lovely to see your drawings and read about the interesting activities Foundation Students are getting up to at home during this time.

The Foundation students have continued to wow us with their letter formation. The letters 'L' and 'H' were our focus, with students practising the correct formation of both the capital and lower case letters, before sharing a word beginning with L and H. 'Helicopter', 'Hen', 'Light'  and 'Log' were just some of the words Foundation thought of! Their sounding out skills continued to impress us in the 'Initial Sound Hunt' where Foundation found items in their house beginning with the sounds L, H, I and F.  We are so impressed at all of their hard work and creativity in Literacy tasks, well done Foundation!

The Numeracy knowledge in the discovery centre keeps on growing! The Foundation students spent the week working on their numbers and counting. They worked through their Mathletics activities as well as some fun Numeracy and counting games. We know some students played several rounds of these activities and even won against their parents and siblings in the 'Race to Ten'! Very clever Foundation!

Once again, we would like to express our thanks to all of the families supporting MPRPS student's learning from home. We sincerely appreciate your efforts and partnership with the school and understand if you are unable to complete all of the assigned learning activities every week. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher via Sentral if you have any concerns, questions or feedback.

Above you can see our incredible Foundation E.S staff trying out a few of the learning activities for Week 4! Remember to try your best and don't worry if you feel you might be missing a letter or a number! It is all part of your learning. You have many interesting activities to look forward to this week, including  your updated Choosing Board and Specialist Activities on Thursday. Don't forget to take brain breaks as needed and incorporate physical activity into your daily routine!

Stay warm this week!

Terima Kasih,

Erin Dawson, Jessica Tossell, Brooke Henwood and Yana Gill.
