Foodweb Term 3

After a fabulous Term 2 working with the Prep-2 students, Foodweb Education is focused on the front of school gardens for Term 3, with the 3/4/5/6 students. Using the Junior Landcare funding our school was allocated we are embellishing our weaving garden and planting an Indigenous Food Forest. The working bee in July saw the building of a path and from now students will be mulching and planting the many Indigenous food plants from around Australia. This is coupled with learning about the plants and Indigenous agricultural practices, inspired by Bruce Pascoe’s “Dark Emu” book.  We are working on an incursion, signage and resources to be part of this Food Forest. Foodweb sessions are Wednesday and Friday this term and any parents with interest and/or knowledge in the Food Forest and Weaving Garden would be very welcome to be part of building these exciting gardens.

TPS Enviro News

Winter’s been busy for TPS Enviro Team!

At last our Babajen Garden Dreaming landscaping is finished! Wednesday afternoon saw the area opened, and the whole school population packed into it. Shoes were kicked off, kids and adults were rolling around on it, the rocks were used as seats, bumpy paths, and after lunch classes started to use the space.

Planting will begin in the next few weeks with students and be part of the TPS Junior Landcare Grant.

TPS Chickens

The TPS chooks were moved before the landscaping works began to minimise stress for them, and have now retired permanently to a lovely home in Thornbury where they are being well cared for. Our hens are elderly for that breed so we considered it the best option to move them at the start of the holidays.

We plan to get some new chickens in spring, with a new hen house from funds raised. If you would like to be involved in chicken breed selection, caring for the new chickens or helping to put together the new hen house please email: tpsenviro@gmail.com

Working Bee & Native Food Garden

A big thank you to all the hard workers at the Working Bee at the start of term. An amazing effort to fill the prep/1 sandpit, build two new paths for the Native Food Garden and Weaving Garden out the front on Hutton St., and lots of weeding and pruning.

There’s plenty more work to do, including planting and mulching by TPS students with Aviva Reed the TPS Garden Educator. When the planting and mulching is done we’ll complete the paths at the next Working Bee in term 4. Watch this space. Work is a bit delayed by the issues with collapsing bitumen out the front along an old pipe line

Kitchen Garden Classroom

The TPS Trivia night this Saturday is raising money for our next project, renovating the old shelter shed near the Babajen into a functional Kitchen Garden Classroom. This will be a great resource space for the whole school.

Spring veggie and herb seedlings.

Watch this space for a spring veggie and herb seedling sale to raise funds for the Kitchen Garden Classroom. We’ll have some plants grown by TPS students, as well as CERES organic seedlings, and VINC indigenous tube stock.
