In the Art / Craft Room

ART

Students will explore the theme of “Circus” in the art room to coincide with the circus theme of the 2109 Arts Festival. Discussions have begun with classes as to what this will look like. The students will watch a video showing the techniques used by artist Alexander Calder to create moving circus figures and we modify the approach to suit the ability of each year level. The students will use their knowledge of balance and motion to create their figures using simple items such as straws, wool, fabric, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, wire and simple stitching techniques.

Foundation: Students will focus on clowns to create their art works using scraps of card board to create their clown images and dress them in colourful hessian clothing which they will stitch together. They will also make pompom funny animals that have moving part.

Year 1/2: Students will explore various circus performers to create their moving art works. They will use pipe cleaners, tubes and pasta shapes and folded paper/fabric to create their characters.

Year 3/4: Students will also look at circus performers focusing on acrobats and trapeze artists to create their art works with moving parts.  They will have opportunity to stitch the costumes for their circus performers.

Year  5/6: Once students have created their circus sculptures, they  will explore various mechanisms for moving parts.

Art club runs each Friday at lunchtime. All students are welcome to attend.

I also welcome all parents and carers to assist in the art room at any time. Please sign in at the office beforehand to let staff know you are visiting the art room. You can also contact  me on the email below.

Steiner Craft

Foundation Year

Students are finishing their pom pom. They will revisit finger knitting making long lengths to attach to their pom poms. We will also explore weaving on cardboard looms to learn the rhythm of the over and under technique of weaving.

Class One

Students are continuing work on their recorder bag project, which will most likely take them to the rest of the term. Students are using the ‘fish’ stitch to depict a fish swimming down a river decorated with bridges. Those students in the class that made their recorder bag last year, have been using the running and over stitch to create a hessian bag of their design.

Class Two

Students are continuing work on their sunray cushions, stitching both the front and the back of their cushions. Once these are completed the class will commence work on their first knitting project to complete a knitted teddy bear. They will be use the garter stitch and learn how to count rows and create bands of colour.

Class Three/Four

The class has been developing and furthering their knitting skills by focusing on some elementary Fair Isle knitting techniques to create a knitted gnome. The class has been developing and furthering their knitting skills by focusing on some elementary Fair Isle knitting techniques to create a knitted gnome.

Class Five/Six

Students have been spending the first few weeks creating the props for their Roman play. Some students have begun work on their knitting/crochet project. This will involve students doing their own research to create a knitted/crochet item of their choice. This may be a soft toy, bag or clothing item.

I am inviting all parents/carers and grandparents to come along each Tuesday to assist in the craft class.  Please ensure you have a current Working with Children’s check documented at the front office before volunteering.
