What's Been Happening

Year 5/6

Last week, the year 5/6 students used their gold nugget STEM challenge to bring some joy and learning to the Pre Primary students. First, they buried their gold nuggets in the sandpit for the PP class to find. They then weighed the nuggets using balance scales and magic stones. Finally, they discussed with their buddy, the heaviest, lightest, smallest and largest nuggets.

On  Wednesday 13th May, the year 5/6 class made history come alive with a campfire on the oval. We talked about fire safety, how fires were lit when the First Settlers came to Australia, and the purpose of lighting the fires. We cooked damper and potatoes on the fire and tried some cornbread which the settlers had to resort to when rations were cut. We experienced the plain cooking the Settlers had to eat for nutrition and to stave off the hunger pains and appreciated how lucky we are to have such variety and flavourful food. Mr Gibson demonstrated modern prospecting and took us searching in the sand pit and the oval. We even found a ring! He also talked about the historical gold discoveries, the gold rush and Eureka Stockade. It was a day to remember, that is for sure!

Community Service

As we are currently without a Gardener, our Year 9/10 students have been maintaining the school garden during their Community Service classes. It's a great opportunity for them to learn a new skill set and keep our school looking neat and tidy! Keep up the good work!
