LIBRARY NEWS

From the library..

Wow, it’s hot outside! To beat the heat this week the library has become the place to be at break times. While I would like to think coming to see the good books is the attraction, I strongly suspect the lure of air conditioning is more likely the cause.

What’s On This Week?

This week we continue to read Jackie French books during Primary library lessons. We are learning about shearing and sheep dogs with Infants’ classes then enjoying ‘Pete the Sheep’; who knew that sheep want fancy haircuts too? Stage 2 will be pirouetting and curtseying with a kangaroo in ‘Josephine Wants to Dance’ while Stage 3 listen to the last of Jackie French’s disaster series, ‘Drought’. They will also begin their research task on an Australian disaster with a focus on research skills and choosing ‘good’ sites to get information from. So far we have investigated Cyclone Tracy, the Brisbane Floods in 2011 and the 2009 Black Saturday fires in Victoria, and been looking at what was in common with all of these disasters (eg: emergency services, evacuation and the role of volunteers).

Scholastic Book Club

A quick reminder that Book Club orders close TODAY so if you’ve forgotten to get yours back to school today, you can still order online via the Scholastic LOOP system. These orders will be closed off on Wednesday morning, so get in quick! To access this system, got to:

Overdue, Lost or Missing Books

As we approach the middle of Term 4, I would like to remind everyone that I will be starting to chase up books that have been overdue for a significant time. If any of these books are completely lost, could you please let me know via a note with your child or email (library@holytrinity.nsw.edu.au ) so I can remove them from our system. We close borrowing for the year at the end of week 7 so if you could please have a good look for these books, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Library Photos

This week I have included some photos of the happenings in a ‘normal’ week in the library. You will see some photos of student work from last week (after reading ‘Room on the Room’ by Julia Donaldson they designed their own special broom), some Aboriginal Dreamtime story books that Year 9 read as part of their English unit on ‘My Girragundji’, an example of just one classes book returns, Secondary break yesterday (there were so many here!) and finally the incredible short story that Jack U & Tom S have been busy writing and illustrating during Primary break times (remember their names!).
