Food Technology

March has seen all classes being busy building on their practical skills and designing and making creative recipes.

Year 7 have reviewed the Healthy Dietary Pyramid and evaluated their diets. They have made the all-time favourite Spaghetti Bolognaise and Easter Cup Cakes.

Year 8 have likewise been evaluating their dietary intake using the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. They have finished off the term making some fun Hot Cross Muffins. See following recipe.

Year 8 Elective – Edible Gifts – The students have been very busy extending their preservation skills with Lemon Butter, broadening their tastebuds with Dukkah Spices and Pita Crisps and glamming up cupcakes for St Patricks Day and Easter.

Year 9 Multi Cultural Munching have nearly finished their travels with Asian Cookery and have focused on designing their own Fried Rice (CAT).

Year 10 Baker’s Toolkit have been investigating the functional properties of cake ingredients in preparation for designing their own creative “Show Stopper Cake “ (CAT). Stay tuned next term for their fabulous creations.

Year 11 have studied the development of early culture’s cuisines and the growth of agriculture as trading commodities. They made Quesadillas and Red Velvet Cupcakes with Beetroot and Ricotta Icing –healthy cakes!

Year 12 have continued to look at digestion with a SAC -Comparative product evaluation of gluten and lactose free products.

We had a very successful night on “Open Night” with 5 of our Year 8 and 9 students demonstrating their competent skills. The students made Herb and Cheese Twists and Twirls and offered samples to the visiting parents and students. A big thankyou to Maddison Bayliss, Tayla McDonald, Tiare MacDonald, Jessica O”Connor and Zandeirra Jenner.
