VET IN 2016
This week students who have opted to complete a VET subject in 2016 will receive a VET enrolment package in the mail.
The enrolment documents need to be completed, Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number included and payment made to Lilydale High School by Friday 27 November to secure your place in the class.
UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER
Every year, an estimated three million Australians build and sharpen their skills by undertaking nationally recognised training.
From 1 January 2015, all students doing nationally recognised training need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This includes students doing Vocational Education Training (VET) in schools.
A USI is a reference number made up of numbers and letters. Creating a USI is free. It creates a secure online record of your nationally recognised training that you can access anytime and anywhere, and it’s yours for life.
If you are completing VET in 2016 you will need to obtain your USI from www.usi.gov.au and include your USI on your enrolment documents.
SWINBURNE LILYDALE SITE TO REOPEN - 2016
It was recently announced that Box Hill Institute Group will now revitalise and reopen the former Swinburne University of Technology, Lilydale campus in early 2016.
The precinct will be transformed into a comprehensive education precinct for the community that truly encompasses lifelong learning – from early childhood to higher education and beyond.
The campus will provide a range of learning opportunities including VET courses focussed on ‘green’ construction trades, biosciences, health and wellness as well as business, tourism and hospitality provided in partnership with William Angliss Institute. CAE short courses and higher education (degree) courses in partnership with Deakin University will also be offered.
School leavers wanting to study at Box Hill Institute can make direct application for a range of courses starting in 2016. These courses can be found at www.boxhill.edu.au. Students need to specify that they wish to study at Lilydale Lakeside Campus.
FILM MAKING SUMMER SCHOOL
Filmmaking is an exciting, collaborative, creative pursuit and has never been more accessible or affordable. To make good films, however, we need to understand the essentials, using all the tools – and personnel - at our disposal. We can look for information online but there’s nothing better than learning from leading, award winning filmmakers.
Areas taught cover screenwriting for features and shorts, directing actors and the film production and sound design, editing, digital effects, film music, screen language documentary filmmaking and a four day cinematography intensive. The course/s can be taken in full (12 days) or participants can choose their own day and make up their own course.
The Filmmaking Summer School is suitable for teachers and students alike with its practical in feature, short and documentary filmmaking, an introduction to the acting and directing process and presents a realistic picture of the Australian film industry and how to find a place within it.
Highlights of the 2016 summer school are:
- The 4 day Cinematography Intensive using state-of-the-art equipment and a full gaffer and grip crew.
- The 2 day Directing Masterclass with Nadia Tass.
- The revolutionary Low Budget/No Budget Filmmaking using iPhones, Go Pros, Android phone and DSLR cameras.
The Filmmaking Summer School is the only film school taught by Australia's leading filmmakers.
