From the Principal

Term 4, Week 6, Kevin Kennedy

Dear Parents and Carers,

Class Placement Process

We are getting closer to completing  our class placement process for 2020. I ‘d like to thank all the families that submitted their requests for 2020, it has been a useful exercise. As I have mentioned in previous correspondence,  we consider all requests however choosing a class teacher isn’t part of the process. Information about your child’s class placement will be sent home with the end of year reports in the last week of school.

Kindy Transition

This Friday we welcome our littlest and newest  students to West Beach Primary. We have over fifty new receptions starting next year and this Friday is the first of two transition visits. This is the largest number of receptions we have had in recent memory.  It is an opportunity for the students and families to meet the reception teachers and familiarise themselves with the  school. Hopefully this will help reduce the nerves and anxiety that can occur when starting at a new school. I will be meeting parents over a morning tea to discuss what to expect at West Beach Primary and how we can all contribute to  their child’s success.

Volunteers Morning Tea

Straight after this Friday’s assembly we are having our volunteers morning tea in the OSCH room. It is our way of saying thank you to all the wonderful family members who give up their time to support teaching and learning at our school. We really appreciate it and the students love having you there.

2020 School Timetable

According to the Enterprise Agreement 2016, teachers are to only have a total of 1600 minutes face to face teaching time per week.

Presently West Beach Teaching staff are working a total of 150 minutes per week (30 minutes a day) over the allocation identified within the most recent agreement.

To reduce this we need to shorten the length of our day to 3pm, this will start in term 1 2020 (doors to classes will open at 8:50am with classes beginning at 9:00am). This will bring us into line with other schools in the area and ensure we meet the requirements of the  2016 Enterprise Agreement. To reduce the inconvenience to parents we will provide after school supervision until 3:20pm. This will be provided by the leadership team.

I appreciate that this will be an inconvenience to some families. Hopefully with the advanced notice suitable arrangements can be made. Before and after OSHC will of course still be available for families to access.

Three and a half weeks

Don’t panic but there is only three and a half weeks to go until school holidays start. So than means just over a month until Christmas. We have a lot of school events coming up and to avoid clashes with other Christmas events please check our school planner.

Should you have a query or concern please don’t hesitate to book a time to meet or simply pop in for a chat.

Kind regards,

Kevin Kennedy
