Book Week 2019 - Reading is my secret power
Congratulations to all the MFG students who entered our Book Week Writing Competition this year - the choice of prompts were 'A book that has greatly inspired me' or 'How I use reading in my everyday life and to plan for my future' in 250 words. The calibre of submissions was very high and our judge Ms Claire Jones thought carefully about the selection of our overall winner and 2 equal runners up.
We had an excellent turnout for the certificate and prize ceremony, first prize was a $25 Dymocks Book voucher and a Darrell Lea treasure chest, runners up prizes were $25 Dymocks Book Store Vouchers. All entrants received a certificate and small prizes. Well done to our overall winner Lillian Stoehl 7L and runners up Masooma Faqiri 8B and Ruby Carbines-La Spada 7D. All entries were displayed for all MFG students to enjoy in the library, thankyou to all participants and Ms Claire Jones our 2019 Judge. I really enjoyed having our ceremony in the new Library and can't wait until next year!
International Roald Dahl Day 2019
Congratulations to the winning entrants in our annual Roald Dahl Day competition, held on his birthday every year - 13th September. MFG entrants responded to say in 50 words or less 'what their favourite Roald Dahl character is and why' or entered the trivia quiz. Colorful and thoughtful responses were received in the writing competition (winner Sienna Donatucci 7B) and 60 entries for the trivia quiz (winner Mikaila Brady 7L). Again, thanks to everyone who shared their love of Roald Dahl books.
Wednesday Circle of Friends Book Group
Meeting every Wednesday at 1pm, we discuss our latest finds, favourite authors and series and regularly select books from bookstore and publishers' tubs sent to us. Many members are keen Geelong Library members and make great recommendations for new additions to the student library collections. We are always keen for new members and there is a once a term competition for a $25 Dymocks Bookstore voucher. Our term 2 winner was Hannah Nagtegaal 7L- well done Hannah!
Tuesday Craft Group
This term we tried macrame. Everyone tried very hard, it's quite complex and luckily we were able to learn from one another, find out about basic knots from the Lincraft craft sheets and to watch YouTube videos for starters! We will be keen to share photos in the next newsletter. Thanks to everyone who regularly attended and persevered!!!
Next term is jewellery-making!!! Bead kits and polymer clay bead making will be on and I am enthralled already!!!! We will have a show and tell day - to share our creations - scintillating way to end the year!!!!
Come along next term and join in our free weekly sessions. We will be having guest presenters.
