MULTICULTURAL COMMITTEE NEWS
Vera Dudas
Multicultural Community Liaison
At the last Multicultural committee meeting our guest speaker was Nestor from "Catholic Care", which offers a Youth Refugee case Management Program at the school. Nestor presented a comprehensive report on the support that he offers to young refugee background people from North Geelong SC. All students from a refugee background in need are welcome to make an appointment with Nestor. He is at the school every Thursday in the A building during school hours.
We have more updates on the latest for our Multicultural Festival, which is on Friday 24th October. We are pleased to announce that our renowned home made cake stall is going ahead this year. Miss Kim Nguyen is the new cake stall manager for the first time this year.
Thus: Parents/ Guardians, we need your help please! We would like parents, students, staff and community members to make cakes and/or sweets for our famous cake stall.
The cakes would have to be at school by 10am. It is okay to send them with the students. If you think you can help, could you let us know please? Because of health regulations, we request that you attach a list of ingredients (not the recipe) with the goods. So with term holidays coming you will have time to think of what you may want to bring, or practice baking.
For now we hope you all have a safe and restful term three break.
When we get back from holidays we will have one more Multicultural Committee meeting (one week before the Festival) on Friday 17th October.
Happy Holidays !

Three big changes to the vaccine program
In 2015 three major changes to the vaccine program will impact on parents of secondary school students:
1. The local Council’s immunisation service may contact you about the secondary school vaccine program. Schools have been authorised to provide parent contact details to local councils for this purpose. Contact the school by 28 February 2015 if you do not want your contact details given to the local Council.
2. In 2015 only, the vaccine that protects against diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough will be offered to all students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. From 2016, this vaccine will be offered to Year 7 students only. This will provide earlier protection from these diseases.
3. The time-limited human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine program for Year 9 boys was completed in December 2014. HPV vaccine will continue to be offered to all students (both male and female) in Year 7 from 2015.
Look out for the vaccine consent forms coming home from school with your child. You need to read, complete and return the forms regardless of whether your child is being immunised at school.
