Classroom News - Kindergarten

Mrs McMillan and Mrs Godwin

Sadly this is Miss Hunt’s last week with Kindergarten as she finishes her 4 week practicum at St Mary’s. We would like to thank her for all of her hard work and we wish her continued success with her journey in becoming a teacher.

Learning at school

In English this week we are learning the digraph ‘ch’ and tricky words – do, put and as. Kindergarten is starting to build a formidable bank of tricky words that they can read automatically and we are now starting to use these words when we write sentences. For reading we are investigating the storybook ‘Wombat Stew’ by Marcia K. Vaughan and Pamela Lofts.  We have been using this story to help us write our own recipes and the students have been writing some very interesting recipes of their own.

Please note that next week there will be no Talk Homework. Kindy will instead, be writing their Cold Write, which will form part of  their Term 4 writing assessment.

In the afternoon session, Kindergarten has been gathering in our ‘Campfire’ space to practice our reading. The campfire is a space where we gather to learn from not only the teachers but also each other. Rereading familiar books also helps us to read fluently and to enjoy and foster the love of reading.

In Maths, Kindergarten has commenced their multiplication/division unit. The students are revising how to group objects into equal groups and will be investigating the sharing of objects next week.  Kindergarten knows that they can skip count objects that are in groups and/or count on to find the total of the groups.

In Religion, Kindergarten will be investigating the story of Noah. The students have listened to the story of Noah and the Ark and will be exploring God’s everlasting promise to always be with us and care for us.
