NAIDOC WEEK

NAIDOC is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians in various fields. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Activities took  place at BSC during NAIDOC Week.

Last year the SRC had a goal of having 4 new flagpoles for the entrance to our new building. This idea came about because of a lack of poles we had. The SRC raised funds from the casual clothes day towards purchasing the 4 poles. We are proud to have all 4 flags flying each day at BSC.

Reflections:

This week during our Year 10 Reconnect session, the year tens took some time to learn about Indigenous culture with a mindful colouring in session. In accordance to NAIDOC week, we spent out session learning about Indigenous culture and listening to music by modern Indigenous artists. It was really interesting to listen to the different Aboriginal tongues that each artist sung in and to notice the number of references that were made for their love of the Australian land. We enjoyed a "chill" session that gave us time to relax, while also learning about the rich culture and history of the Indigenous people of Australia.
