LIBRARY NEWS

Library Happenings

Last week our students enjoyed listening to a new book ‘Whose Bones’ by Chihiro Takeuchi. This is an interactive book where children get to guess the animal by looking at its bones. Our special guest for this book was Mr Gaias’ skeleton, John Bon Boney, which our students loved, although I think they were a little disappointed it wasn’t an Elf on the Shelf.

KS showed how far they’ve come by writing the names of several animal skeletons and then got to decorate a fun human one.

Secondary Lapathon

Each day, a dedicated library crew of secondary students come in to read, play Uno and to chill in the air conditioning. Some of them made my day when they came dressed  for the Lapathon last Thursday as characters from a very famous story. Can you guess which book  it is? Well done, Thomas, Caleb, Lucy & Lorenzo.

Book in a Box

As part of Year Ten's final English assignment, students were asked to decorate a box and find items to place inside that were inspired by the story. They chose a wide range of books from ‘Pig the Pug’ by Aaron Blabey to ‘Call of the Raven’ by Wilbur Smith. They look great displayed in the library and have created a lot of interest with our younger students.

New Book - Witches (the Graphic Novel)

A new phenomena in the literary world is the reworking of classic books into graphic novel format.  One new adaptation of a classic story is Roald Dahl's ‘The Witches’ by Penelope Bagieu. I wonder what the first borrower, Dom, thinks?

Book Fair Colouring Competition Winners

Congratulations to our Book Fair Colouring Competition winners Heidi, Isabel, Dominic & Zac.

Final Week for Borrowing

Next week (week 8), is the final week for borrowing and ALL LIBRARY BOOKS NEED TO BE RETURNED BY FRIDAY, 11th December 2020. I will be sending overdue notices home next week but if you cannot find your child’s books, please let me know ASAP on library@holytrinity.nsw.edu.au to avoid a replacement invoice. I thank you for your support in getting these back by next Friday.

Just to prove you can read anywhere, most days when I get to school, I’m greeted with Riley enjoying a book from his favourite series, ‘Heroes of Olympus’ by Rick Riordan. What a great way to start the day!

Happy reading,

Mrs Toni Fraser
