Transition from Grade 6

to Year 7

It’s been an unprecedented and challenging year, but it was great to see the enthusiastic faces of the Year 6 students who came to visit us on Orientation Day this year. After an unusual online Transition Evening, Box Hill High School welcomed almost 250 Year 6 students onsite on Tuesday December 8th, from 40 different primary schools.

We enjoyed seeing so many excited students enter the gym for our introduction, and although there were also many nerves, it was terrific to see students making new connections as they settled into their form groups for 2021.

Our new students were treated to a variety of activities from learning how to read a timetable, to quizzes and competitions, and Peer Support sessions. Additionally, students were given a taste of a few subjects that they will take in 2021, and the enthusiastic participation of the Grade 6 students was impressive.

As students got the chance to bond with their form group at lunchtime, it was clear that the highlight of the day for many students was getting to experience our canteen for the first time!

A special thank you to everyone who went out of their way to make sure that the Year 6 students had a great introduction to high school.

We would also like to thank our Year 9 Peer Support Leaders in training who gave up their time to provide support for our new students run a variety of games and activities. They are to be commended for the excellent leadership they showed, and we look forward to working with them further in 2021.

We hope all the Grade 6 students have a wonderful time celebrating their primary school graduations and wish all of them a wonderful holiday break. We look forward to seeing you again on the first day of school in 2021 as our new Year 7 cohort!
