Year 3-6

It has been an excited and action-packed fortnight in year 3-6! There has been balls flying, book characters brought to life and lots of fun learning in-between.
Writing
What if Cinderella wanted to go to a basketball game instead of a ball? What about if Jack went down a giant tunnel instead of a beanstalk? Our creative year 3 and 4 writers, have been thinking along these lines when adapting fairytales. We are sure we will see some of these amazing texts on a future CBCA Shortlist.
But if fiction is what you’re after, have a chat with our knowledgeable 5 and 6 students who have been busy writing information reports. They have been learning how to use data charts to research and organize their writing, and then write their reports.
Reading
Our 5 and 6 legends have been focusing on their reader’s notebooks entries. When completing reader’s notebook entries, students externalise their thoughts before, during and after reading a text. Thinking about our reading is what GREAT readers do (great readers like our year 5 and 6 students). Check out some of their amazing entries.
Mathematics
Over the past fortnight all students have been working hard on their individual next steps in learning of units of measure. Students have been learning about time, length, mass, volume, capacity, perimeter and area.
Civics and Citizenship
What is the difference between laws and rules? Just ask any of our knowledgeable year 3 or 4 students! They have been learning all about rules and laws, who makes them and why we need them. Our 5 and 6 students have been looking at what Australia means to us, our rights as Australians and our responsibilities.
Footy Day
It was great to see our students dressed in their favourite Football club colours or favourtie sport uniform. We spent the afternoon sharping our football skills with some drills.
Book Day
We celebrated the 2020 Children’s Book Council of Australia day is style! We spent a whole glorious day celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Students contributed to our colourful displays, participated in activities, listened stories and of course dressed as our favourite book character.
Thank you to our amazing Grayling families for your continued support
