Year 1 & 2

Reading
In Reading, the students revised the comprehension strategies learnt over the year in preparation for their reader notebook entries. Each week students will choose a strategy and use a graphic organiser to help them track their thinking while reading. This process will help them better understand what they are reading as they reflect before during and after they read.
Writing
In Writing, students have been exploring the genre of response writing. They discussed the advantages and disadvantages of their time during remote learning and wrote a response reflecting on this experience. They have also watched and reviewed a funny short film called ‘For the Birds’. The highlight of this unit so far has been participating in an activity where they had to review a food. The food they tried was from a famous book called wombat stew. We read the book as a class and then they made their own version of wombat stew. The students were very engaged in this activity and enjoyed eating their wombat stew.
Maths
This week in Maths, students began learning about the topic of mass. They used different ways of measuring weight to compare and order objects. They used informal units such as blocks and marbles when using balancing scales and used formal units like grams and kilograms when using digital kitchen scales.
Integrated
In Integrated, the students have started investigating the unit of history. During week 2, the students discussed the different milestones they have achieved in their life and shared how their family celebrate special events. It was wonderful to compare and learn about different family cultures. In week 3, students explored their family trees where they observed the variations in our families within our learning community. Week 4 saw students share artefacts from their home that were special to their family. They also engaged in activities surrounding the topic of family roles and values.
Footy Day
Footy day was a huge success with students completing footy based crafts and activities during the day and then a rotation of ball sports in the afternoon.
Book Character Day
Today for book character day, students participated in a range of book crafts and activities. Students created a new book cover for a book of their choice and made a colourful elephant collage after watching the book 'Elmer'. They also read the story 'I need my monster' and created their own monster and listened to the book 'Where the Wild Things Are' before making their own masks. It was so nice to see everyone's effort in their costumes. They had an incredible day.
