Prep

Prep students have all settled right back into the classroom. They have continued to develop their reading skills through the readers notebook which is completed daily. The students are all working on developing their reading skills through varying reading strategies within their reading responses and then using the choice board gives them the autonomy to choose learning activities that they which to complete.
We would still like the student to continue to be reading their take home readers each and every night as these books that they are brining home are books that they have read in class and are just right books for them. Remembering to record their thoughts in their reading journals.
On Monday the students completed their recount learning task, this was a big step in their development, sitting away from their friends and no talking whilst they completed the learning task. They all did extremely well and their recount writing have improved since the first one on Term one.
In Mathematics we have been focusing on Subtraction and Collections, the students enjoyed using many hands-on resources to learn all about subtraction which then could be used within the collection’s unit. They have learnt how important it is to know subtraction and how it can be transferred into everyday life. In the coming weeks they will begin to learn about Mass and Capacity, these are always very popular units with Preps and we look forward to teaching them the skills needed to understand the units.
Footy Colours Day, the students came to school wearing their favourite teams colours. We had AFL, NRL, Rugby Union, Soccer, Netball, Lacrosse and many more sports represented within the Preps. They participated in learning activities throughout the day all linked back to football. After lunch the Preps, Ones and Twos all came together for an AFL and Soccer clinic. They were taught skills such as dodging players, kicking for goal, hand passing and soccer ball dribbling, every student had a ball rotating through all of the clinic stations.
Book Character Day what a fun filled day, this day saw many different book characters within the Preps, we had Cat in the Hat, Elsa’s, Spiderman, Wooley Sheep, Zombies, Truck Drivers, Hot air balloons and many more. The students all participated in many literacy focused learning activities on the day and they all seem to enjoy themselves.
