The mammoth task of moving almost 100 above and below-ground services to make way for North East Link is continuing, ahead of major construction next year. From next week, you’ll notice a lot of work in Frensham Reserve, Watsonia as we start moving two transmission towers. The two transmission towers will move 80 metres from the Watsonia Station car park to the power line easement located on the eastern side of Greensborough Road in Frensham Reserve. Moving the towers from the Watsonia Station car park to the reserve will help make space for North East Link and an upgraded Greensborough Road.
In order to complete these works, a worksite will be established in Frensham Reserve, between Greensborough and Frensham Roads. The reserve will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists while the new towers are built. A signed detour route along Elder Street, Service Road and Todman Street will ensure easy access to the train station and shops. These relocation works will take around six months to complete and we’ll be working hard to minimise disruptions to nearby residents and businesses. From early 2021 there will be some impacts to the Watsonia Station and library car parks and local roads with detours in place as we start the next stage of these works.
We’ll provide further updates as these works progress. Find out more about what is planned by downloading the fact sheet and initial works notification.
These works will take place between 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm, Saturdays. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we get these important works done.

Ever wondered what other animals live in and around your local waterway?
This November we are looking for volunteers to take part in a citizen science eDNA (environmental DNA) sampling program to help us understand biodiversity in Melbourne’s creeks, rivers and wetlands.
eDNA is genetic material that can be found in your local waterway. Using cutting edge technology, scientists are able to use eDNA collected in water to identify all kinds of animals including fish, frogs, birds, and platypus! Kind of like a barcode to wildlife.
At a site of your choice, we’ll need you to collect a couple of water samples and conduct a simple habitat assessment. This is a great way to get to know your local waterway and play a part in a wildlife conservation study. Sampling kits will be posted to you, and will include a pre-paid envelope to return your sample. Prior to November, we will hold online training and a video of the training will also be available for those who cannot attend.
Please submit a short Expression of Interest form to let us know your details and the location of where you would like to sample, by Monday 19th October 2020. If you would like more information about this project contact:
teresa.mackintosh@melbournewater.com.au
Note: We need to ensure sampling is spread out across the Melbourne region, so it might not be possible to choose every site suggested.
