Principal's Report

Flexible. Resilient. Positive. 2020

School Council 2020 Thank You

The School Council met last Wednesday for our traditional November council meeting and dinner. Thank you to all members of our School Council for your commitment for the continued improvement of Rangeview PS. You are our representatives of the Rangeview community.

A special thank you to Lloyd Lazaro who has held the important role of School Council President since 2007 and has been a member of the Rangeview School Council since his eldest child Hamish started in Prep. His last children are moving onto secondary education in 2021 and Lloyd's tenure as president comes to an end. On behalf of the school community, I wish to acknowledge Lloyd’s considerable contribution to our school. I certainly have appreciated working with Lloyd in my role as principal over 10 years. Lloyd, you have done a sterling job and you will be missed. We wish you and your family all the best in the future and thank you for your influence and guidance evident at our school.

We have weathered the storm of 2020 and we are planning for a new school year, perhaps without the same level of change and drama.

Master Plan Concept

The design by Crosier Scott architects is in the final stages with 3 levels with administration, art room, library, well-being, STEM, student toilets, staff room and flexible learning spaces.  This design reduces the current footprint and creates an open outdoor space named the ‘Town Centre’.

On 19 October, we organised a WebEx meeting with Dustin Halse. Shilo and Mark, Crosier Scott architects walked our local State Member of Parliament, Dustin Halse through this innovative design.  We are wanting Dustin to serve as an advocate for Rangeview when projects are discussed at a government level. I believe the design concept was well received.

This plan will soon be ready for the independent valuation to determine a potential build cost. When this is ready we will begin conversations with VSBA. I have spoken to Clayton Sturzaker, our SEIL (School Educational Improvement Leader) about seeking support from DET in regards to a future half school rebuild if funding became available.

Foundation 2021 Information Session and Transition Sessions COVID 19 Style

2021 foundation transition sessions will run in term 4 in a very different way. Our Transition Coordinator, Carol Wilson has sent out letters to our families enrolled outlining term 4 transition dependent on preschoolers entering the school in maximum groups of 10 (this includes the parents).

Carol and the other foundation team have filmed transitions sessions for the first 6 weeks of this term, releasing one per week. In week 8 there will be one session offered to each preschooler enrolled for 2021. There is a planned information WebEx and a meet your teacher WebEx in December.

Rangeview has to meet the enrolment needs of families with children within the zone and any extra spots outside the zone are very limited. We have a site capacity of 700 students approved by DET and we are only accepting enrolments within our zone for 2021.

Grade 6 Jacket and Polo Top

An email has been sent out to the families with children in grade 6 in 2021 advising them of the introduction of a special grade 6 polo top and jacket by PSW. This optional jacket and polo shirt will be in our school colours. Grade 5 students have voted on the design printed on the back. Parents order the uniform on Try Booking. Families have until the end of November to order their tops.

No to Candy Canes

It is that time of the year when children are writing Christmas cards for classmates at school. As a confectionery free school, please do not send candy canes to school with or without a card.
