Learning at School

Each morning Kindergarten starts their day recording what day it is, what month it is, how many students are at school and how many days Kindergarten have been at school.  It’s wonderful to see the students count by 3 and then count on when they are counting the number of students at school. They are also counting back or forwards when determining how many students are away. It’s also an opportunity to correct number formation and reversals when they record the answer on the board.

In English this week we are revising the latest sounds learnt this term ch, v, y and z. We are also learning new tricky words ‘like’ and ‘very’. Kindergarten are very good at putting these words in sentences. Our storybook this week is ‘All Through The Year’ by Jane Godwin and Anna Walker. This is a heart warming story about a family’s trip through an Australian year, month by month. We look forward to writing about what we do in the winter season and the summer season in our writing lessons this week.

In Maths, we have started our pattern unit. Kindergarten can make and copy patterns made out of 2D shapes and skip count forwards and backwards by 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s. We have also started new units in Science and in PE. In Science, we are investigating how the properties of materials affect their use. To start this unit we went for a walk around the school to identify what things were made of. In PE we will be finishing the year with our Dance unit. 

 In Religion, we have started our Advent and Christmas unit. The concepts of waiting and joyful anticipation are explored through the use of the Advent Wreath and the story of John the Baptist. Ask your child what colour is used to signify Advent. 

In Drama, we are magicians. We have to come up with a magical spell to help Hush in Possum Magic become visible again. I hope we find a spell in time before the end of the year.
