Classroom News - Year 2

Miss Simpson, Mrs Phelps and Mrs Cain

Year 2 have had a wonderful time reading the remainder of George’s Marvellous Medicine last week. It has been lovely seeing the class excitedly come back from the library with different Roald Dahl books and growing their passion for reading. This week we have started reading our newest chapter book The 27th Annual African Hippopotamus Race by Morris Lurie.

Year 2 are all very excited for our new Religion unit, learning about Advent. We have been brainstorming different situations when we need to wait for things an dhow it feels when we are waiting.

In Mathematics we have been learning about patterns and algebra. Our favourite part has been when we made picture patterns using Aboriginal symbols and making patterns using body percussion.

Last week we finished up our Geography unit on people and their connections to places. This week we are starting our Science unit focusing on living things. We have already been investigating how living things grow and change over time, although, there are some things that do not change as we grow up!

Focusing on throwing and catching, Year 2 have had a great time in PE. We have been practicing throwing and catching with a small group, and also challenging ourselves by seeing how many times we can clap our hands between throwing the ball and catching hit again. It was sometimes hard to concentrate on both!
