Director of Senior School Update

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

Yet again, the year has passed by so quickly and we find ourselves already 2 weeks into Headstart! It has been a busy year as always at Mordialloc College; a year filled with both fun and hard work.

The Senior School team has said ‘goodbye’ to Ms Wilson who has decided to take on the role of Learning Area Leader for Science for 2020. She has always been a valued part of our team and we will miss her greatly next year. We are happy however, to welcome Ms Stephens as Year 10 Co-ordinator and look forward to working with her throughout the year ahead.

We also said our goodbyes to the class of 2019 earlier this term and for many of us, it was a time of very mixed emotions. As always, we were sad to see them go, but excited by their future plans and aspirations. I was lucky to have taught a fantastic group of students whose good-natured banter and sense of humour I miss already! On a personal note, this group of students will always hold a special place in my heart as they, like me, joined Mordialloc College in 2014 and are therefore the first cohort of students I have known throughout their entire College journey. Many of them have been back into school since finishing their exams – to say thank you and goodbye to their teachers, and some, simply because they don’t really want to leave Mordialloc College which has been a huge part of their life for the past 6 years. We await their results on 12 December and I truly hope they all achieve their goals which will enable them to progress to the next stage along life’s pathway. I wish the class of 2019 all the very best for the future and look forward to hearing of their successes.

The start of Headstart signalled entry to Senior School for our new Year 10 students. We welcomed them at a Senior School assembly where the challenge was set to uphold the high expectations of Senior School as they begin the final 3 years of their Mordialloc College experience working towards a Year 12 pass in either VCE or VCAL.

Thank you the parents of students in Year 10 -12  who attended the Information nights earlier this week and last; it was great to see so many of you there. Hopefully, the information about processes in the Senior School and the Elevate advice on how best to support your child in their studies was useful.

I would like to say a ‘well done’ to all students who have achieved their personal best in their studies, sports and other areas throughout 2019 and I look forward to working with you all next year. Have a fantastic summer; have fun, complete your holiday homework but most importantly, stay safe!
