ELEMENTS – Arts and Technology Festival

WOW! What an amazing week we had with the annual Art and Technology Festival- Elements! During the week of Monday 30th October to Friday 3rd November), the L block was open throughout recess and lunchtime for students to view some outstanding artwork which was created by both students and teachers. The purpose of the art show was to recognise students talents and efforts, by providing them with a platform to show off their creative flare. There was a range of pieces on display including; photographs, paintings, wood work, metal work and textiles!

On Monday the 30th, students and their families were invited to join the staff at the opening night of the Elements festival. Our guests had the opportunity to view the exhibition on display in the L Block, where we received outstanding feedback on the breadth of student work.

We had some music performances to begin with which then led to introducing our honourable guest speaker from Monash Art Gallery. Anouska Phizacklea, the gallery director spoke about the importance of arts education within the school context, whilst also commenting on the breadth of opportunities we as students have in our creative subject areas and arts opportunities.

We would also like to congratulate all award winners for both the competition section of the festival as well as commendations for students efforts in class.  All students should be very proud of their accomplishments and we look forward to seeing them continue to flourish creatively in the future.

We would like to thank all of the students and teachers who worked tirelessly to set up the exhibition spaces. It was certainty a very busy time and despite all of the stress everyone was going through, it turned out to be a fantastic exhibition!

As Arts Captains, we had the opportunity to not only assist is setting up the exhibition spaces but to also run some lunch time activities. These included included; a music and instrument workshop, a fence weaving and a still life drawing. All of these workshops ran very smoothly and we hope all of the students who participated enjoyed them as much as we enjoyed running them!

The best part of Elements was seeing the amount of talent all of our students and teachers have! If it weren’t for shows like these many people’s talents would be hidden but I am glad that everyone at WHSC has an opportunity to show of their work proudly!

Everyone is encouraged to get involved as much as possible in the years to come because Elements is definitely one of the best opportunities to show off your talents!
