STEM Report

Welcome Back!

I'd like to start by welcoming back students and families to a fresh new year at Roxburgh Park Primary School. I hope everyone is feeling rested and eager to continue their learning again in 2023. It has been fantastic catching up with students and parents, hearing about their fabulous holiday and exciting news. Feel free to drop by the STEM room or walk with me on yard duty if you have anything you would like to share about your summer break.

What's happening in STEM this term...

The start of first term can always generate some big feelings and emotions around the thought of coming back to school. In the STEM room, we have used this time to run a short start-up program which is revisiting our classroom routines and expectations in an effort to reduce the anxiety of returning to the classroom. Students have taken to this program well and are already showing signs of being relaxed and prepared for learning.

Our new Term 1 topics will be starting shortly. Have a look below to see what each year level is up to.

Prep: Getting ready for learning (Games and activities focused on classroom skills such as listening and cooperation)

Grade 1/2: Materials all around us (Exploring different objects and the materials that make them)

Grade 3: Melting Moments (Learning about the 3 states of matter and how matter changes)

Grade 4: Its a Material World (Investigating and comparing the use of natural and synthetic materials)

Grade 5: I'm a survivor (Learning about the survival of living things and their adaptions for different environments)

Grade 6: Earth's place in Space (Exploring the planets in solar system and beyond)

The STEM lunchtime club will also be starting shortly. Keep your eyes peeled for our posters and come join us for some fun and excitement using the spheros, Lego Mindstorms, Kinex kits and 3D printer.
