Year 4
Ms Roberts, Ms Yammouni, Ms Bowman and Ms Murphy
It has been lovely listening to our Year 4 students settling into their new classes and creating new friendships amongst the cohort. Learning is well and truly underway and students are excited about the new topics they are exploring this term. During our Startup week we revisited our school values; Kindness, Respect, Learning Together and Zest. It has been wonderful to see our Year 4 students displaying our values inside and outside of the classroom.
Literacy
This term students have dived into non fiction texts and are busy constructing their own autobiographies. Students are using photographs from home to plan their ideas in chronological order and add important details from their lives. The Year 4 teachers are looking forward to learning all about our lovely students. Students are continuing to explore non-fiction texts in Reading and are examining how different text features help them to gain information from a non-fiction text. We are looking for these features when reading and reflecting on them in the classroom.
Numeracy
Students are learning about place value during Numeracy sessions and have begun to explore numbers over 10,000. Students are looking at the different numerical values and experimenting with representing them in different ways, such as worded form and expanded form. Students are also learning about data interpretation and analysis. Students are collecting data about their peers and using this to create graphs and answer questions about their findings.
Civics and Citizenship
This term Year 4 students are studying the local level of our government and the resources available to us in our community. We have played a game without rules and reflected on the importance of rules and laws in our community. Students are enjoying exploring resources in our local area and researching which resources are vital to help a community thrive.
Personal and Social Learning
During these sessions we have focused on creating new friendships in our new classes and getting to know each other, students are exploring different emotions we might experience and talking about the Zones of Regulation.
Students will be attending swimming lessons in Week 6 at State Swim in Craigieburn and students and teachers are eagerly looking forward to this. Please ensure that you give consent for your child to attend via Compass and read the event details carefully so your child has all the correct items on the day. If you have any questions about swimming please see your child’s classroom teacher.
