School Timetable and Attendance

Student Attendance

If your child is absent from school we ask you to contact the office on 9521 9335 or via email at office@smhampton.catholic.edu.au as soon as is possible to advise us of the absence.. During 2018, the legislation regarding Attendance Guidelines directed schools to advise parents/guardians of unexplained absences on the same day, as soon as practicable. Our office admin team will call parents by the end of the morning if there is an unexplained absence.

If you know in advance that child is going to be absent from school, please speak to or email your child’s teacher explaining the reason for the absence so that it can be recorded. In the event of an extended absence, for example a family holiday, parents are required to inform the teacher and the office in writing in advance.

School Starting Time & Signing In

School gates (between Prep rooms and the office, and next to the tennis court) open at 8:30am for families to enter the school. We ask that children not enter or leave via the main reception entrance, so that office staff are able to assist parents with queries in the morning and afternoon without noise and disruption. Gates are locked at 8:55am, after which children can enter via the office.

Learning time commences in classrooms at 8:45am, so it is important that children are at school on time for the bell, ready to commence the day in their classrooms.  Each class commences the day with a class prayer and meditation, to set the children up mindfully a day of learning. Important information about the day ahead is also discussed at this time and the class roll is completed. Obviously there are times where a late arrival cannot be avoided, but I do ask parents to be mindful that arriving late can be disruptive and can also make children feel uncomfortable having to walk in late, and missing out on important information.

Children arriving after 9am need to be signed in at the office. Staff will ensure that the children get to their classroom. Occasionally, parents may face a challenge in getting their child to school on time. If this is the case, please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher or to our Deputy Principal/ Student Wellbeing Leader Nathan Eddy. We are able to assist in putting strategies in place to support you and your child in getting them into the classroom and quickly settled, ready for a positive day.
