MESSAGES FROM SAM LUCK & JUDITH CLELLAND
Dear Members of the Collingwood College School Community,
2018 has been an exciting time at Collingwood College. Our wonderful school is an innovative place because our students and staff constantly strive to create the best teaching and learning environment. We offer amazing opportunities and experiences and our students strive for their personal best on a consistent basis.
As the world continues to change, our task is to prepare our students for a life that we cannot yet fully imagine. We are preparing them for roles and responsibilities in the real world. It is our commitment to the students that we look ahead and plan with great anticipation and energy to find ever better ways of extending learning opportunities for each student.
In the Primary School, the focus is always on the child; we do all in our power to discover how best each of our students learn and then to support each in becoming creative, articulate and independent learners. Upon reflection of the school year, I marvel at the diverse learning opportunities our students have encountered. A broad, rich and engaging curriculum delivered through two approaches, at all times accountable to the Victorian Curriculum.
This year we offered so many opportunities for our students to innovate and achieve. Our camps, market stalls, excursions, incursions, class plays and classroom projects all value and define what is most unique about our school community. The Spring Fair, an enormous success, brought together the very best of our school. A heart-warming culmination of the efforts by teachers, students, parents and the wider school community.
The staff members that work with our students are the reason for the school’s continued popularity and growth. We have welcomed a good deal of new staff to our school in 2018 and their contributions to our school’s daily life have been quite remarkable, complementing the work of our fine established staff who have witnessed and professionally managed significant change in recent times.
It is my privilege to be a part of it and to commend all on the great work achieved in 2018.
All families play a vital role in the success of our students at school and we are most grateful for the support that we receive. I’d like to thank you all. Without you, our school would not be what it is.
I can’t wait to see what 2019 brings.

Dear Parents and Carers,
2018 has been a very exciting year for all involved with the secondary school.
The Year 12s have had an intensely productive time and are already looking forward to new challenges while a new group of Year 7s have already had a most fulfilling transition day in their secondary school environment.
At all year levels there have been a range of rewarding challenges, either through camps, curriculum programs such as the Year 8 Project or the ARC performances and productions or the Main lesson or hikes in the Steiner streams.
The Year 12 theatre production was remarkably successful and our VCAL students continuously impressed staff parents and the wider community with their catering accomplishments.
The news about the success of our senior secondary partnership with Fitzroy High School being extended through the proposed shared campus at the old Gasworks on Queens Parade is another highlight of 2018.
The events and accomplishments of our student groups for 2018 are in fact too many to list here and there will be many more accounts of individual pursuits and successes elsewhere in the newsletter and in our magazine.
In this report I would like to thank all staff, students and community members for their warm welcome and support for me as I moved into the new position at Collingwood.
I have been impressed and delighted by the range of expertise within the staff, parent community and of course, the students.
Congratulations to all the year level co-ordinators and homegroup or advisory teachers for their consistent support of and guidance for, the students. Thanks to our Wellbeing team, Jess, our school nurse and Nisa and Gareth our social workers for all the advice and support that you have provided for students and community members throughout the year.
Thanks to our office staff and support staff who so generously assist all our school community members in so many ways and thanks to all teaching staff and those in leadership roles who have again carried us through the complexities of a very eventful school year. It has been said in many articles that the community here is special and that the relationships are highly valued. This is so true and we have much to look forward to in 2019. The values of the school, the inclusiveness and the creativity are in evidence everywhere and are part of daily life at Collingwood. I hope that you all enjoy a peaceful and safe break and I look forward to catching up with you all in the new year. Thanks again.
