Mobile Phones

You may have seen recently that Federal Education Minister Simon Birmingham has recently come out in favour of locking mobile phones away during school hours.

" Classroom time is for learning," he said. "Not to be distracted from learning."

Concord School has the following rules in place:

No phones at school for any purpose including games and music during the following times; 9:00 to 10:35,   10:55-12:35,  1:20 -3:00.

Phones must be in lockers and bags and not carried around.

The current rules still apply to texting, calls, social media (eg Facebook, Snapchat) internet,       photography (i.e these not permitted at any time during the day).

Likely consequences for breaches.

1st breach:

Phone handed to Section Leader or Colin Simpson for rest of day & recess detention with me.

2nd breach:

One week no phone at all (handed to me or section leader) plus loss of a recess.

3rd breach:

Three weeks no phone 9:00-3:00

4th breach

One term no phone (or possibly longer)  9:00-3:00

Exceptions:

Phones/apps for school related activities, at teacher discretion, eg. Using Google Maps,                             calculator, STEM Program PTV planner etc.  On an excursion at teacher discretion.

The above is consistent with our current mobile phone policy. If you have any questions please ask.

If you would like to contact your child during school hours please contact the office on 9467 3972.

Dysons Buses

Monitoring and management of students on contract school buses. (i.e. Dysons)

In the next few weeks, on the Lalor bus only, we will be trialling a new system to monitor and manage students on the school buses.  This is a joint initiative of the Department Of Education Student Transport Unit, Dysons and Concord School.  If the trial on the Lalor bus is successful, it is likely that all buses and supervisors will move to “Roll Call”

The easiest way to understand how this will work is to go to the Roll Call website and view the YouTube clip. When viewing the website and video please be aware that for Concord School :

  • students will NOT need a card to touch on/touch off , this will be done by the supervisor.
  • Roll Call will only be used on the Dyson contract buses and not for our own excursions and school trips.
