Past Students

One of the most rewarding things about being a teacher at Fairhills High School is hearing from past students.  These are the lovely words of an ex-student Matt Hession:

‘Starting at Fairhills High School in 1997, I quickly found passion in the Languages program; taking up Japanese.  I hosted Japanese students every year, then at the age of 14 headed over to Japan with a few students with KSKK. Falling in love with Japan, I then obtained a scholarship with Rotary and attended 12 months’ schooling in Japan. The experience changed my life. I owe these experiences to the supportive and encouraging staff at Fairhills High School, a school that really rewards effort and supports diversity. After graduating VCE I took up an under graduate degree, majoring in International Business, Political Science and Japanese linguistics. I took 18 months’ off during the degree and went and taught English in Japan. Having worked for a few different companies since finishing Uni, one of them being an international Japanese firm, I now manage a team of people across Australia and New Zealand for a large service company. Life has thrown me a few challenges but when you attend a school like Fairhills High School, you’re definitely given all the opportunities.’

If you would like to follow in Matt’s footsteps, we are still looking for host families for Japanese students who will be visiting us from July 20 to August 14. Please contact Jessica Winstone Languages Coordinator if you are interested. It could be the start of a life like Matt’s!
