'Darling River "Barka" Water Run'.
Dear Teachers, Students and Parents
Barka is the traditional Baakindjii people name for the Darling River. If you are a regular reader of the Bendigo Advertiser you will recognise my name from the recent “Barka Water Run” water drive we arranged for the Central West New South Wales town of Menindee who are in severe drought with no drinking water.
With the help of a Facebook page fund raiser, word of mouth and flyers we gained support for the people of Menindee and the 1st water drive delivered 8 Pallets of 24 pack 600ml bottles of much needed drinking water to Menindee in the first week February 2019.
The 2nd drive that is also going to Menindee next week being delivered on the 10th of May raised $5460.00 that will buy 13 Pallets of water 10 litre casks @1000.00 litres per pallet.
We are now embarking on third water run to the town of Bourke in conjunction with the "Menindee water drive" and "Dignity water "with a target of 66 Pallets or 66,000 litres. Bourke in far North West NSW is suffering the same fate as many towns in the Murray Darling Basin in this worsening situation of drought.
Although Bourke has bore water at the moment this water is too salty to drink and people are suffering higher averages of kidney disease from the high levels of salt and sodium. If you would like to donate to this water drive it would be greatly appreciated by me and the others who are supporting this massive drive.
Time frame for any donations is three weeks from date of this letter
