Year Ten Outdoor and Environmental Studies Camp

For camps week the Year Ten Outdoor and Environmental Studies class went to Wilson’s Promontry as a part of the requirements for the Unit 1/2 class. We spent four days there, two of which were spent at Norman Beach surfing with instructors.

The first two days there was a lot of swell and the surfing was very exciting. Under the guidance of the surf school everyone was able to successfully stand up on the board and all wished to remain out on the waves.  We were split off into four groups of ten because the maximum amount of people allowed in a single campsite was twelve. That means that while two groups were surfing the other two were hiking.

Everyone did every activity and the groups rotated through the activities.  One did a massive 20km hike that lasted the whole day. One of the most interesting things we all discovered on the camp was how intelligent wombats are. We all discovered the hard way when they got into peoples bags and on one night managed to climb into the trailer with all of the food that we thought to be out of reach. One group was able to escape this when they went on the overnight hike. This was a night trip to Sealers Cove at the trip to Sealers the hikers were able to go in a cave as well as go over a river crossing.

Other than all of the hiking and surfing there was a lot of time devoted to writing our journals that would later be assessed as well as time to just chill out on the beach and look at the stars. This was one of the best experiences because we were so isolated and everything was clear.  Another experience that  everyone enjoyed was the morning hike up Mount Oberon to watch the sunrise across the ocean. Everyone enjoyed the trip and all are looking forward to the camp later this year.
