Student Leaders

SUPERHERO DAY

The Year 6 Student Leaders launched their Positive Change Project at assembly this week. They are holding a Superhero themed fundraiser! The Superhero Day is on Monday 21st October (Week 3). Students are encouraged to wear superhero themed costumes to school on that day. We will be holding a whole school assembly that afternoon.

The Student Leaders have organised to run lunchtime activities with a superhero theme called the ‘Superhero Training Academy’. They have decided to split these activities over two days, promoting greater student participation. A gold coin is required for students to join in the fun.

Monday 21st October - for Year 3-6

Tuesday 22nd October - for Prep – Year 2 (junior students dress up this day too!)

These events have been designed to raise money to purchase some Supertees, superhero themed hospital gowns, for sick children. More importantly, the Positive Change Projects aims to raise awareness of the significance of pretend play for sick children. Research shows that pretend play, like being a superhero, helps a child put psychological distance between themselves and the problem at hand. It’s known as ‘The Batman Effect’.

At the end of Week 3, some of the Student Leaders will visit the Monash Children’s Hospital to present a cheque from the funds raised on the Superhero Day. They will have a tour of the children’s ward and the school there, meeting some of the young patients.
