Principal's Report

~ Positive Education for Life ~

~ Every Child Known, Encouraged, Challenged ~

Dear Parents and Friends of St Brendan’s,

I cannot believe that I am writing the final newsletter for Term Two! It has been a long and busy term at St Brendan’s with much to celebrate and be thankful for.

Our students have been working hard to produce their best efforts in learning. We have been so proud to join our Year Three and Year Six students as they prepared for and celebrated the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. We have celebrated the children’s sporting successes in the Inter-School Winter Sports program and Cross Country events. We were proud to watch our Year Three /Four students as they investigated scientific concepts and presented and explained them at our Science Expo. We are proud of the children who bravely stepped up to audition for parts in our Term Three musical production of Madagascar Junior. I think that all children are ready for a well-earned holiday to rest and re-charge their batteries.

I wish them all and their teachers a lovely break.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

The Sacrament of Confirmation was celebrated in our parish last weekend. Father Brendan Hayes confirmed Year Six students on Friday evening at St Mary’s Hastings and on Saturday afternoon at St Brendan’s Somerville. I was so proud of our students who conducted themselves in such a mature and reverent manner. This group of Year Sixes continues to make me proud every single day. Congratulations must also go to their teachers; Mar Van Der Peet, Ben Thorn, Justin Barry, Sharon Christensen and Sarah Bagshaw. Their preparation, planning, care for and support of the children has been outstanding.

(We apologise that there are no photos from Friday's Confirmation. As there are St Mary's students in these photos we can not publish them without parent consent from each St Mary's student in the photos)

THANK YOU

On behalf of the school community, my sincere thanks go to Maria Tropeano who has decided to step away from her role as coordinator of Social and Fundraising events at St Brendan’s. Maria has done an amazing job drawing people together to assist with projects that build community and raise valuable funds for our school. I wish to personally thank her for her all that she has done in what can be a challenging and time consuming role. Thank you Maria.

If any members of our parent community have ideas about how we might re-imagine social and fundraising at St Brendan’s next term, please feel free to come to see me, drop me an email or give me a call. I’d be delighted to hear from you. My email address is scarr@sbsomerville.catholic.edu.au

SRC/Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal

Thank you to the many families who sent along warm clothing to school to support our SRC/Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal. The children proudly displayed bags of donated clothing at yesterday’s assembly. We are extremely grateful for your generous donations. If any families have spare, clean blankets, baby blankets or doonas, they would be welcome to add to our donation. Thank you.

ASSEMBLY DATES FOR TERM THREE

I heard yesterday that some parents are unsure of the weeks that assembly is held at St Brendan’s. It is held every second Monday afternoon of the term. The dates for Term Three are as follows:

Week Two – 22nd July

Week Four – 5th August

Week Six – 19th August

Week Eight - 2nd September

Week Ten – 16th September

SAVE THE DATE

The Resilience Project at St Brendan’s August 5 at 7:00 pm

Many of you will recall the last time Martin Heppell from The Resilience Project presented at St Brendan’s school. His talk was a resounding success as he shared so passionately with parents the need to develop resilience in our children and in ourselves. Martin will return to St Brendan’s on Monday 5th August at 7:00pm. If this is the only event you attend at school this year, I guarantee you will not regret taking part in this wonderful learning opportunity. The event will be run free of charge to parents and bookings will open on Monday 22nd July.

100 Days of School

Our Foundation students looked amazing this morning celebrating 100 days of school.
