PRAYER

Spring

For flowers that bloom about our feet;

For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;

For song of bird, and hum of bee;

For all things fair we hear or see,

Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

For blue of stream and blue of sky;

For pleasant shade of branches high;

For fragrant air and cooling breeze;

For beauty of the blooming trees,

Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

(From We Thank Thee by Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Well-being and Screen Free Day

The prayer above was chosen with well-being in mind.  The season of spring began last week and we are trying to encourage the boys to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.  An appreciation of the magnificence of nature is good for the soul and it means they are away from the screens and getting some exercise.

I hope today's Screen Free Day was a day of interesting learning activities.

Book Week

Congratulations to every boy and teacher who participated in the Book Week character competition. They all looked fantastic but we had to choose the winners and they were wonderful.  Thank you to all the parents who assisted in this endeavour.  These activities are Primary School based so enjoy them while they last. Thank you to Mrs Martin for running all the Book Week activities online.

This week’s Highlights:  Nature Book Week, 6 September 2021.

With many of us unable to get out and about, the next best thing is to explore the natural world through the pages of a good book.

This week is the Wilderness Society’s Annual Nature Book Week! The Wilderness Society has shortlisted the best children’s nature books of the past year, one of which will be awarded the 2021 Environment Award for Children’s Literature at the end of the week. Here is a short selection of some of the fabulous, short-listed books.

Leaf Litter by Rachael Tonkin

Throwing this incredible book out there for Nature Book Week. This book is a terrestrial nature immersion all in one hit! – orchids, beetles, it features one of my favourite butterflies, the Bright copper (Paralucia aurifer) AND its underground pupae, caterpillars and their ant bodyguards. It takes you through the seasons, night, day, dry, wet but all focused on the one tiny patch of earth, with all of its inhabitants and their changes and cycles …. Get amongst it!

On the last Screen Free Day the students explored Other Worlds, the World of Nature! They ventured outside with their Nature Journal and connected with the natural world. A great activity to do with the family now that Spring has arrived.

NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge.

The PRC has closed for students. This week I will be busy validating student records.  A big thank you to all the students in the Junior School who participated. Happy Days!

Mrs Martin’s Book Trail: Stop The Dad Jokes! by Adrian Beck

Yes, Dad jokes. We all know them and have probably ‘groaned’ with them. This is the book that will allow children (and parents) to roll their eyes and chuckle for no other reason than they’re so bad they’re irresistible. You will even discover that dad jokes  are not limited to humans - the fathers in the animal kingdom love to torment their offspring too. Stop the Dad Jokes! is full of jokes that are embarrassing, goofy, and absolutely NOT FUNNY! Oops Only Joking! Grab a copy. #mrsmartinsbooktrail2021
