Cyber Safety

Students today are growing up in a digital world and we, as staff and parents, need to understand that the greatest risk our children face online is being denied access. The Internet is essential to our children's education, future careers and lives, and with the current situation of Covid-19 digital technologies to learn, socialise and communicate. However, even the most experienced Internet user doesn't understand how children use the Internet and how to help them have a safer and more enjoyable surfing experience.

We recognise that it is essential for our students to be equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to navigate the online world safely.  Beaumaris North Primary School has full eSmart accreditation. The eSmart program is an initiative run by the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, designed as a cultural change approach to improving Cyber Safety and reducing cyber bullying in schools and homes.

At Beaumaris North Primary School, all students learn to protect their own privacy and respect others’ privacy through the ongoing lesson of The Cyber Safety Project. Our digital world is permanent and with each post, students are building a digital footprint. By encouraging our students to reflect, pause and think before posting online, they will consider how what they share online can impact themselves and others.

At the beginning of every year all our students sign the Beaumaris North eSmart Essential Agreement, which states while at school, students will use the internet appropriately. Students also agree they will respect the rights of others online.

At school, according to the Department of Education and Early Childhood (DEECD) guidelines, our internet is restricted. Students cannot access inappropriate sites- particularly sites such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

We recognise parent today’s tech savvy kids can seem overwhelming. But you can do it!

Below are a list of parent resources that include available suggestions, resources and tips for ensuring a safe, secure and respectful online environment exists within the home environment as well.
