Principal Post

Dear Families,

With our Lockdown extended until Friday 3rd September I would like to thank you all and acknowledge the hard work that you are doing to support your children in these challenging circumstances. The current restrictions are no doubt taking a toll on everyone in Melbourne. I am sure that juggling your work commitments alongside supporting your children is no easy feat.

I take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our staff, whose ongoing dedication to remote and onsite learning is a great strength and truly appreciated by all.

A Message to all our students

I  am sure you are missing being at St John Vianney's school with all your class mates and your teachers.  Whilst it would be fantastic to be back at school, we have to follow the rules. This way we hope that everyone stays safe.

Thank you for your efforts with your remote learning and I ask that you continue to give your very best.

Sometimes it is can be tricky in families when we are all sharing learning spaces, when your parents are trying to work and you're feeling a bit tired.   It is important that everyone tries to look after one another in their  family  and one way of doing that is giving your best!

School Camp

Year 4 School Camp

With the announcement from the State Government that the

Lockdown will be extended until 11:59pm on Thursday 2nd September, the Year 4 Camp to Sovereign Hill has had to be cancelled.  Sovereign Hill emailed us to say that all camps and excursions up to and including Friday 3rd September cannot go ahead. Sovereign Hill have said that due to the ongoing impact of bookings from 2020/21 our Camp experience cannot be postponed to another date in 4th Term.

Whilst this comes as a disappointment to our Year 4 students and to the school, it is out of our control. These steps are in line with the Government requirements and advice from MACS as part of the current wide response to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Parents will be rebated the cost of the camp from their fees and charges. All families that have paid their school account in full will be given a refund for camp.

The Year 3/4 team will investigate possibilities for excursions and incursions in Term 4, keeping in mind the restriction requirements. It is the best we can do.

School Concert

We are postponing the School Concert. As you can appreciate, the organisation of the school concert is a huge undertaking.  The Lockdown restrictions this past term and across the next two weeks have meant that students have had very limited time to practise their items together andto be ready for a production performance. It is further complicated with the many restrictions placed upon us in relation to the venue at Crossways in Burwood East.

To this end we will be postponing the concert and will not be able to have our Performance at Crossways as planned.

The plan going forward is:

The students will continue to practise as part of their Performing Arts lessons and within the level and class when the return to school.

We will record and film each Level Concert Performance here at school.

Depending on COVID restrictions, we may arrange for the recording to be watched as a ‘school event’ at school. The recording of our School Concert will be also be on sale for families to purchase.

Further information including dates will be sent to you, as they become available.

First Communion

With the uncertainty as to when we will be out of lockdown and the numbers that will be allowed in the church, we will await further advice from the Government Health Department before locking in  the two First Communion Dates dates and times.

The Parish will keep you informed and you can contact the Parish directly on 9546 3831  should you want further clarification.

Book Week

Due to the extended lockdown, Book Week will now be celebrated virtually! Next Wednesday the 25th of August, students will receive a grid of fun and exciting Book Week activities to complete. There will be competitions and prizes to win as well! We would still love for students to dress up and take a photo as their favourite book character at home. These photos will be collated to create a Virtual Book Week video for all to watch. We look forward to celebrating with you all online!

Education Advisory Board

The Education Advisory Board will meet online next Tuesday 24th August. We will be discussing:
