International Students

Homework Club: Wellbeing Program

International Students Homework Club Wellbeing Program is to be held every Wednesday from 3:30pm-4:30pm in classroom L5. Eleven International students from year 7 to year 9 are participating in this program.

As Wellbeing Placement Students, we are required to complete a research project to further our learning. We were given the topic of International Students, and decided to explore their understanding of the Wellbeing Team at Doncaster SC by creating a six-week education program. We will focus on widening the students understanding of the role of the Wellbeing Team, how to accesses the Wellbeing Team and what services they can provide.

Unfortunately, due to lockdown, we have only been able to run one session so far. This session included introductions, ice breakers and a survey to inform us what topics to focus on throughout the rest of the Program.

Future sessions will include: how to access the Wellbeing Team, what things they can help students with, a Beyond Blue speaker and a Multi-Cultural Food Fest, with students bringing dishes from their own countries!

We are looking forward to working with you!

Homework Club: Language Support Program

Based on students’ Semester 1 report and feedback from the Year level coordinators, we have identified some International students who need a little extra support to improve their academic results. For this purpose, the International Team set up a Homework Club Language Support Program to assist these students.

Five students from Senior school were invited to the Club for language support. They shared their ideas regarding 'What they have done in the past two years'; 'What they haven’t done in the past two years' and 'What they would like to do in the future'. Every student had three answers to each question. They have shared their actual thoughts and wishes for the future.

After the Oral practice, they selected a book that they are interested in to read and shared their insights with everyone. I also tried to help them with their pronunciation, grammar use and proper sentence structures in English.

We are looking forward to the next session.
