Open Girls

On Friday 13 August, the Open Girls Netball team participated in the second round of the SA School Sport Knockout Netball Tournament. The girls played against Modbury, Birdwood and Seaview High Schools throughout the day. The competition was tough, with all 4 teams consisting of experienced and skillful netballers.

Unfortunately we only won 1 out of our 3 games which meant we did not progress to the next round but all games were within a close margin. The team should be commended for their teamwork, athleticism and skill throughout the day. These girls have been playing together and representing the College in netball since 2016 and should be congratulated for their efforts.

Year 7/8 Boys and Girls

After team trials and selections back in Term 2, the Year 7/8 Boys and Girls teams were thankful to Mr Herne, Miss Facchin and student coaches, Alex and Kane Jones, for preparing game tactics and developing their skills in the lead up to the carnival day.

Mr Herne’s 7/8 Girls team won every game but unfortunately lost the Grand Final to Kings by 2 points securing a runners up medal. They worked well as a team utilizing team tactics and full court plays. Miss Facchin’s team learned more about basketball tactics and developed their skills as the day progressed. Kane’s team of Year 7/8 Boys won the Grand Final and beat Kings by one point in overtime. What an exciting game with a strong finish! Alex’s Year 7/8 team won two games and improved significantly throughout the day. They showed great teamwork and effort, and really played to their strengths.

9/10 Boys and Girls

Preparing for the carnivals began back in Term 2 with team trials and selections by coaches Mr Herne, Miss Dutton and student coaches, Lachlan Williams, Zachary Davey and Cooper Price, students developed their skills and worked hard as a team to create plays in the lead up to the carnival day. Two Boys and two girls teams competed throughout the day with varying levels of success on the day but with resilience, perseverance and positive team spirit showed by all players.

Zachary’s team had some hard fought games, which were a true testament to the players' ability to react calmly when under pressure. They eventually went down in the Grand Final finishing second overall. Both girls' teams developed their basketball confidence and team plays finishing 4th and 13th overall. Thanks to Mr Herne for his passionate commitment to our basketball teams for the last 7 weeks and developing our basketball school culture.

Open Boys

Our Year 11/12 boys played some exceptional basketball throughout the day including a huge dunk from Dylan Huppatz. The team finished equal second in their pool at the end of the round robin stage but were relegated to third on count-back. The team narrowly lost their cross-over game finishing 6th out of 14 teams. Thank you to Mr Pearse for training and coaching the boys in amongst his busy Acting Principal schedule.
