Drama Excursion - Hibernation

The Senior Drama class had the opportunity to watch the State Theatre company's ‘Hibernation’ at the Dunstan Playhouse – Festival Centre. ‘Hibernation’ is set in the year 2030, and shows us a future where the world is falling into an immediate climate crisis. The world leaders need a solution and they need it now. They decide on forcing the human population to go into a deep sleep for 365 days, but what happens to the world while the human race sleeps (or hibernates) is not what they expected.

An original and transformative theatrical event, ‘Hibernation’ brings together some of the state’s finest artists to tackle one of the most urgent issues of our time in a brave, unexpected, and peculiarly Australian way.

The Senior Drama classes haven’t been able to see many productions this year due to Covid, so finding out they were able to go and see ‘Hibernation’, meant they were all very grateful. An amazing night was had being with each other and thoroughly enjoying the experience. A big thank you to Mr Richards for arranging, rearranging and rescheduling this experience for the class.

Senior Drama Production

Over the last term, the Year 10, 11 and 12 Drama students have been working extremely hard to present our Senior Production, Sentimental NothingnessSentimental Nothingness is a musical comedy written by our very own Mr Richards. This production explores the importance of age, wisdom and our life’s journey – where we begin and where we will inevitably end up.

It’s a love letter to our grandparents and older generations, all presented through the eccentric and loveable residents of Sunnyset Retirement Village. Students have been spending not only lesson times but also many lunches, Sundays and afternoons rehearsing, to ensure that we have an incredible show to put on for you. It’s a show not to be missed, performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday of Week 8 (9th to 11th of September) and tickets will be available online. We hope to see you there!

Big Band Excursion

On Monday 16 August, The Big Band and the Year 10 and 11 Music students visited Adelaide University in order to experience a rehearsal/performance from the Adelaide University Big Band and Latin Band. The excursion was excellent. It showcased some of the very talented musicians of Adelaide, as well as enriching our understanding of different styles and rhythms in a large ensemble scenario.

Overall, it was fantastic to hear such an exceptional and lively performance, and to observe such an extraordinary band work together to create music!

Year 11 Music Solo Night

On Wednesday 18 August, the Year 11 Music students performed their solos at a solo concert. As well as this being a graded performance, this night gave the students the opportunity to play their solos to their families in a formal setting. With a range of instruments including clarinet, flute, trumpet, drums and vocals, the night featured some incredible performances.

Ranging from show tunes to romance, and even a deconstructed clarinet mid-performance, the night highlighted the progress of the Year 11s through their years of instrumental playing. The night was also an opportunity for the class to be graded on their performances by Ms Stanley and Mr Wooldridge. Overall it was great night jampacked with amazing music and talented musicians.
